The Quaternary formations in the Wielkopolska region created the glacial and water glacial deposits of the three glacial and two inter glacial periods in order. These deposits lie on the strongly varied Tertiary surface, which constitutes the varied Poznanian Upper Miocene silts. With regard to hydrogeology the specified region lies within the Polish Lowland macro region, in the sub-region of the Zielonogórsko-Leszczyńskiej Heights.

The water bearing layer covered by the HERMES water intake belongs to the Quaternary sub clay water bearing level of the Southern Poland Glaciation. It is formed in a good assortment of sandy deposits, in the roof of which are fine sands – sludges, powdery sands and clays of the central Poland glaciation. Extensive reach, free water level and excellent maintenance mean that these waters do not require treatment and that their physical-chemical and bacteriological compositions conform to Polish and European Union legal requirements.
